Moss

I looked back over my photos from Oregon.  Interestingly, most are of moss.  There’s a lot of moss in Oregon so some of it’s bound to be featured, even inadvertently, in a photo.

But I actually love moss.  Maybe it’s because we don’t have much of it here in Wyoming. Maybe it’s because I crave brilliant splashes of green to break up the brown.

Moss are actually amazing plants.  No roots and no internal tubing to transport water and nutrients.  They absorb everything through the leaves.  And they don’t flower.  They reproduce by spores.

I think the Japanese have it right.  They feel moss adds a feeling of stillness or calm to a garden scene.  I’d have to agree.
